William Tatem Tilden II (February 10, 1893 – June 5, 1953), nicknamed "Big Bill," is often considered one of the greatest tennis players of all time.
An American tennis player who was the World No. 1 player for seven years, he won 14 Majors including ten Grand Slams and four Pro Slams. Bill Tilden dominated the world of international tennis in the first half of the 1920s. During his 18 year amateur period of 1912-30, he won 138 of 192 tournaments, and had a match record of 907-62, a winning percentage of 93.6 percent

Ricardo Alonso González (May 9, 1928 – July 3, 1995), generally known as Richard "Pancho" Gonzales (or, less often, as Pancho Gonzalez) was an American tennis player. He was the world no. 1 professional tennis player for an unequalled eight years in the 1950s and early 1960s. He won two Major titles and twelve Pro Slam titles.
Largely self-taught, Gonzales was a successful amateur player in the late-1940s, twice winning the United States Championships. He is still widely considered to be one of the greatest players in the history of the game.[1] A 1999 Sports Illustrated article about the magazine's 20 "favorite athletes" of the 20th century said about Gonzales (their number 15 pick): "If earth was on the line in a tennis match, the man you want serving to save humankind would be Ricardo Alonso Gonzalez." The American tennis commentator Bud Collins echoed this in an August 2006 article for MSNBC.com: "If I had to choose someone to play for my life, it would be Pancho Gonzalez.

John Patrick McEnroe, Jr. (born February 16, 1959) is a former world no. 1 professional tennis player from the United States. During his career, he won seven Grand Slam singles titles (three at Wimbledon and four at the US Open), nine Grand Slam men's doubles titles, and one Grand Slam mixed doubles title. McEnroe also won a record eight season ending championships, comprising five WCT Finals titles and three Masters Grand Prix titles from twelve final appearances at these two events, a record he shares with Ivan Lendl. In addition he won 19 Championship Series top tier events of the Grand Prix Tour that were the precursors to the current Masters 1000.

As the Doomsday Stroking Machine, the remarkable Kenneth Robert "Muscles" Rosewall was a factor in three decades of tennis, winning his first major titles, the Australian and French singles in 1953 as a teenager, and continuing as a tournament winner past his 43rd birthday. Probably nobody played better longer. He was yet a tough foe into 1978. At the close of the 1977 season, he was still ranked as one of the top players in the game, No. 12, on the ATP computer, having won two of 24 tournaments with a 44-23 match record. "It's something I enjoy and find I still do well," was his simple explanation of his prowess in 1977, "but I never imagined myself playing so long when I turned pro in 1957."
The son of a Sydney, Australia, grocer, Rosewall was born in that city Nov. 2, 1934, and grew up there. A natural left-hander, he was taught to play right-handed by his father, Robert Rosewall, and developed a peerless backhand. Some felt his size (5-foot-7, 135 pounds) would impede him, but it was never a problem. He moved quickly, with magnificent anticipation and perfect balance, and never suffered a serious injury. Though his serve wasn't formidable, he placed it well, and backed it up with superb volleying. Rosewall was at home on any surface, and at the baseline or the net. He had an even temperament, was shy and reticent, but good-natured.

Roy Emerson was a slim and athletic player whose career bridged the amateur and Open eras. He came close to completing the Grand Slam in 1964 but fell in the French Championships quarterfinals to Italy’s Nicola Pietrangeli.
Emerson played during what was considered Australia’s golden period of tennis. He played in eight winning Davis Cup teams, an incredible achievement.
A gifted doubles player, Emerson had a reputation for being able to make any partner look good. Emerson won doubles titles at all of the majors at least three times, proving his skill on all surfaces.
Emerson was famously quoted as saying: “You should never complain about an injury. We believe that if you play, then you aren’t injured, and that’s that.”
