Daniel William "Dan" Carter (born 5 March 1982) is a New Zealand rugby union player.
He is currently the highest points scorer in test match rugby and is regarded as one of rugby's greatest ever fly-halves.

Despite his reputation as one of the best fly-halves around, Dan Carter is yet to make a lasting impact on a World Cup. Boasting creativity and bravery in equal measure, he will be hoping 2011 is his year at the upcoming tournament in New Zealand.
Early life:
Carter was born on 5 March 1982 in Southbridge, a small town in the South Island of New Zealand, to Neville and Bev Carter., and was playing with Southbridge Rugby Club since 5 years old as a scrum half. He attended Ellesmere College and Christchurch Boys High School. Dan has one older sister, Sarah. He has admitted to being a shy and quiet young man who kept grand aspirations to himself. His great uncle was Canterbury and All Black half back William(Bill) Dalley. Bill Dalley was a member of the 1924–25 Invincibles All Black Team to Great Britain and later was a prominent Canterbury rugby administrator.
